Learning things

I learned 3 things at skating practice today. 1. Taking two cross-overs in, making a late pivot, and taking two cross-overs out can be pretty powerful. The two in and late pivot keep me from pivoting too long and not powering through the turn. 2. In order to really achieve #1, I have to turn my right foot inwards on the first cross-over, look and lean into the turn. Otherwise, the first cross-over is just being faked, and doesn't really do anything for me. 3. I have to squish down into my straight-away pushes, not pop up. I think I was doing that because I didn't really want to speed up all that much in the straight-away, because I didn't think I could handle the speed in the turn. But doing #2, and setting up the lean into the turn properly, makes me more comfortable in the turn. Then I can use that speed.

for some reason, this description kind of sounds like a knitting pattern.
